Hand-Crafted Photography

My cyanotypes were featured in a three-person exhibition of hand-crafted photography during October at Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale (MI).

You can watch a short video preview of the show by clicking here.

Lately I've been experimenting with making cyanotypes on Claybord instead of paper. The exhibition featured a large, multi-panel work (shown here) that was created to showcase the technique.

The Art of Encaustic

I recently gave a presentation on the art of encaustic painting to a local artists group. As part of the presentation, I recorded a video demonstration of the basic encaustic process and several additional techniques. The overview presentation is available to view by clicking on the image at the left. You can watch the individual video segments by clicking here.

Figuratively Speaking...

My work is brought together with three other Detroit-area artists for the first time in a new book that is a collection of drawings of the most challenging, always changing and most rewarding subject—the human figure.

The human body has been one of the mainstays of drawing for students and established artists for many years. It is a beautiful form capable of infinite variety and emotion and almost impossible not to respond to in a drawing. To take muscle, soft flesh, the line and curve of the body, and bring the life and energy to paper is magical. Each of us brings to our drawings a unique vision, style, and vocabulary.

Recent Artwork

I've been experimenting with encaustic as a medium. Encaustic is a mixture of beeswax and pigment that is brushed on while still hot and liquid. It hardens instantly and layers are built up, one upon another. You can find photos of some of my recent works in encaustic and other media on the Portfolio page.
